Public service reform and improved public sector efficiency will be crucial for Sierra Leone’s ongoing development, according to a key director of the country’s government. That was the primary topic of a recent meeting between a cross-section of the Chief Minister’s Delivery Team and Special Envoy May-Marie Duwai-Sowa.
Mr. Cyrus Sheriff, Director of Public Sector Delivery in the Office of the President, underscored the critical need for public service reform and the implementation of the Digital Service Act to enhance efficiency within the public sector. He also highlighted the necessity for robust support from stakeholders to bridge existing gaps in the public sector, specifically addressing the resistance from certain agencies towards women occupying strategic governmental and decision-making roles. Sheriff collaborates closely with the Honourable Amara Kallon, Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs, to advance public service delivery initiatives from both the Chief Minister’s and the President’s office.
Special Envoy Duwai-Sowa also had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with Mr. Macmond Kallon, the Director of Human Capital Development, and Mr. Kenei Lamin, the Permanent Secretary, Chief Minister’s Office, Mr. Abdulraman Sowa, Director, Performance Management, Dr. Joseph Sherman, Director, Economic Management and Mr. Mohamed Lamin, Personal Assistant to the Chief Minister who collectively pledged their support for the SEIRTI office’s objectives.
In return, Special Envoy Duwai-Sowa noted that the Office of the SEIRTI will add its support to enhancing public service delivery and fostering an inclusive environment that embraces the contributions of women in leadership roles within the Sierra Leone government.
Duwai-Sowa represents Sierra Leone’s Office of the Special Envoy for International Relations, Trade, and Investment (SEIRTI), which is based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Born in Sierra Leone and now living in Canada, Special Envoy Duwai-Sowa holds both Canadian and Sierra Leone citizenship.
