On October 16, 2023, President Julius Maada Bio launched the ‘Feed Salone’ flagship initiative to boost agricultural productivity, and ensure food security and inclusive economic growth. It is built on six pillars which include mechanization and irrigation, seed and input systems, aggregation, processing and market linkages, agricultural finance, AG-tech and climate smart agriculture and empowerment of women and youth.
Our Human Capital Development initiative is centered around prioritizing education and professional training with a focus on 21st-century skills that align with global industry standards. We aim to empower individuals through technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship education, which will ensure that the workforce is highly skilled and position Sierra Leone as a professional talent hub.
With ongoing investment in skills development and capacity-building, we aim to create 500,000 jobs for the youth in 5 years across all sectors.

The Government of Sierra Leone has committed to transforming its education sector, with a keen focus on foundational learning. A newly instituted radical inclusion policy also provides educational opportunities to every child including pregnant girls, children with disabilities, and those in rural and underserved communities to further mitigate inequities in access, quality and outcomes.
President Julius Maada Bio is a champion for women’s rights and empowerment. On November 15, 2022, the Sierra Leone Parliament enacted into law The Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act 2022, a historic legislation championed by President Julius Maada Bio, which will transform the lives of women in Sierra Leone by ensuring at least 30% representation in elective positions, appointed roles, and access to private capital from banks. It further extends maternity leave to 14 weeks, gender-responsive and gender sensitive budgeting and gender mainstreaming across all sectors and legal frameworks.
The 2022-26 Education Sector Plan has also prioritized foundational learning with a goal “to build on and intensify the ongoing work in support of foundational learning to ensure that all students in Sierra Leone, by class 4 (P4) have learned to read fluently with comprehension, acquired fundamental mathematics competencies, and are developing resilient socio-emotional skills.” The core components of foundational learning as identified in the 5Cs in Sierra Leone’s curriculum frameworks are: Comprehension, Computational Thinking, Critical Thinking, Creativity and Civics.
Critical and timely investment in teachers and early childhood education instructors will ensure higher levels of learning and equitable outcomes for children and youth.
