The SEIRTI recently gave a keynote speech at Southern Ontario Collegiate (SOC) to congratulate the class of 2024 on their graduation and notable achievements.
“Today marks another pivotal milestone in your academic journey and one of life’s memorable experiences. Each and every one of you has had a unique experience at Southern Ontario Collegiate, which I am certain you will reflect upon, as you move on to the next chapter of your lives.” she said.
The ceremony, held in the school auditorium, was beautiful, personable and intimate. Through her speech Special Envoy Duwai-Sowa inspired and provided guidance to the students to prepare them for their post-secondary journey.
“Your ability to make a difference locally and globally is greater now, more than ever before. You are no longer constrained by geographical boundaries. There are opportunities all around you to make a positive impact locally and social media serves as an effective medium to have a global reach. You can contribute to causes that matter to you or explore your passions in very creative and innovative ways.” she continued.
The Special Envoy’s words resonated well and were much appreciated by the students and parents alike.
Valedictorian speeches were also made by two students who shared a similar message of hope, excitement for the future, and the beauty of diversity. They explained the positive impact diversity had on their educational experience and the life-long friends they were able to make during their time at SOC. The school has educated students from over 30 countries around the world, and continues to grow in population, mostly international students who are seeking a positive Canadian educational experience.
The diverse, inclusive and welcoming school culture and continued success is largely attributed to the current schools’ owners. Principal Daniel Bastien was also spoken of fondly by the students, and positively recognized for the renewed energy and vigour he has brought to the role.
Special Envoy Duwai-Sowa expressed heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and wished them all the best in their future endeavours.
